FNs roll i världen – utmanad eller mer behövd än någonsin?

Varje dag världen över gör FN:s olika organ insatser för att lindra konsekvenserna av katastrofer, konflikter och fattigdom med ambitionen att säkra en tillvaro där människors behov av mat, rent vatten, sjukvård och utbildning nås. Givet de utmaningar världen står inför idag så som klimatförändringar, kriget i Ukraina, ökat antal konflikter och ökad fattigdom i spåren av pandemin, riktas allt större fokus på vilken roll FN har idag har. Behövs FN idag? Och om FN inte anses behövas, vad har vi för andra alternativ för multilateralt samarbete?

Eller är det så att FN:s roll och betydelse är viktigare än någonsin, och hur kan vi isåfall stärka FN:s legitimitet? Om vi ser att FN ska spela en avgörande roll för multilateralt samarbete i framtiden anser många att behovet av en förändring av FN systemet är stor.

Med avstamp detta arrangerade Svenska FN-förbundet, UNHCR, UNICEF Sverige, UNDP, WFP, Dag Hammarskjölds Stiftelse och Svenska Unescorådet ett gemensamt seminarie under Almedalensveckan. På scen ser vi företrädare för de stora FN-organen med erfarenhet från komplexa humanitära situationer och globala utmaningar, ge sin syn på hur vi skapar bästa förutsättningar att hantera vår världs stora utmaningar.

The role of the UN – challenged or more needed than ever?

UN agencies and bodies work daily around the world with different efforts to mitigate the consequences of disasters, conflicts, and poverty with the ambition to improve people’s well-being and safety and manage the needs for access to food, clean water, healthcare, and education. Given the challenges the world is facing today – such as climate change, war, and conflicts including the war in Ukraine and increasing poverty and inequality in the wake of the pandemic – the discussion on the role of the UN is increasingly relevant. Is the UN needed today? And if the UN is not considered necessary, what other options do we have for multilateral cooperation?

Or is the UN instead more important than ever? And how can we then strengthen the UN’s legitimacy? If we see that the UN plays a vital role in the future of the multilateral system, many believe that there is a need for change within the UN system.

Based on this, the UNA Sweden, UNHCR, UNICEF Sweden, UNDP, WFP, Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation and the Swedish National Commission for UNESCO, arranged a joint seminar during the Almedalen Week. On stage, we see representatives of the major UN agencies, with experiences in complex humanitarian situations and global challenges, give their views on how to create the best conditions to deal with our world’s major challenges.

Participants
