UNA Sweden hosts a two-day conference on 31st of May and 1st of June prior to the UN high- level meeting Stockholm+50. We aim to inspire with visionary ideas and good examples of work in progress to solve some of the greatest challenges of our time. Welcome! You can follow the event online here:

Discussion between Professor Arne Jernelöv, who participated in the Stockholm Conference in 1972 and PhD Sten Lindeberg, who was part of the civil society movement in connection to the Stockholm Conference in 1972, both members of UNA Sweden.

14.20 Environmental defenders and the struggle for the right to a healthy environment
The adoption of UN Resolution 48/13 on the Right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment in October 2021 recognizes the right to a healthy environment as a fundamental human right. This is an important achievement for civil society, which will support the continued struggle to protect the environment and to redress the burden of environmental damage on vulnerable groups. The panellists will discuss what actions are necessary to make this new right an effective tool for human rights and environmental defenders as they face escalating threats and violent attacks in many countries. The session will highlight the vital role of environmental defenders around the world.

15.20 ICLD and Glokala Sverige: Local partnerships for democracy and climate action
ICLD and Glokala Sverige, Malmö and Lusaka. Chisha Chakulanda Banda, Lusaka City, Zambia and Linnea Uppsäll, Malmö City, Sweden, will present new ways to improve the ability of young people to gain influence in local environmental issues. Based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child they have developed a toolkit that can inspire municipalities to involve young people in issues that matter to them. Moreover, the event will highlight the Swedish joint communication project Glokala Sverige which engages the majority of Swedish municipalities in boosting the implementation of the SDGs on a local level. 13.35 Civil society partnership for implementation of the SDGs: UNA Finland, UNA Sweden, UNA Tanzania.
UNA Tanzania will present their work on climate adaptation and climate resilience to limit the effects of climate change with examples of best practice for their project on the island of Pemba and UNA Finland will present their work in Finland.
