What is SweMUN?
SweMUN is the Swedish United Nations Association annual national Model UN for high school students. The conference is designed as a UN role play in which the participants act diplomats of UN member states and discuss current international issues on the basis of their delegation’s (country) position. Model UN’s is an educational method that can make complex global issues more understandable and interesting for many students. SweMUN offers the participants an unforgettable and unique opportunity to partake in a simulation of the UN General Assembly and Security Council.
Who can participate?
Welcome with your application to SweMUN if you:
- Are a high school student
- Are interested in global questions
- Are willing and have got the time to prepare yourself before taking on the role as a delegate in this Model UN
SweMUN 2017 takes place on the March 21-23rd and is arranged together with one of our certified schools, namely Falu Frigymnasium in Falun.
Why should I apply to SweMUN?
By participating in SweMUN you will be able to broaden your knowledge in several disciplines in international affairs. You will also be able to increase your ability to engage in solving problems and resolving conflicts, to practice speaking English, speak in front of an audience, as well as conducting research and better you negotiation skills. In addition to this, you will get the opportunity to meet new people and friends who share your interest in global questions.
How much is the delegate fee and what does it include?
Delegate costs for students and teachers at FN-skolor: FN-skolor are allowed to send one student delegation á four + one teacher as an additional choice to our basic package. This includes the conference, material, accommodation in a shared room and all meals. If you wish to send extra delegates or teachers they will have to pay a fee of 1400 SEK per person for the conference, material, accommodation and all meals.
Delegate costs for student and teachers that do not belong to an official UN-school: 690 SEK – includes the conference, material and food (except breakfast). Accommodation is not included, but you are more than welcome to contact UNA Sweden for more information about where you can stay in Falun.
How do I send in my application to this conference?
The last date to send in your application is January 13th, 2017.

When should I arrive to Falun and where do I register?
The schedule for the first day at SweMUN in Falun:
10:30 Registration for delegates.
11:00 SweMUN kick-off for the delegates.
13:00 Opening ceremony for the conference.
15:30- ca 20:00 Lobbying and dinner at Falu Frigymnasium.

Which dress code is accurate for this conference?
The dress code for SweMUN is Western business attire. Men wear suit/trousers, jacket and shirt with a tie. The ladies wear trousers or a skirt with a blouse and possibly a jacket. If a delegate’s hair reaches to his/her shoulders or longer the hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or tied up in a knot. This applies to both women and men. Denim garments and sneakers are not allowed because it is not suitable as the role of a diplomat. Sunglasses are not allowed as well.

What about compulsory attendance during the conference?
During the whole conference the participants are obliged to participate, this applies to all delegates. This includes meals and the SweMUN-party.
