For years, the conflict and instability in Somalia has been a source of insecurity to its population. Since 2013, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia has worked to strengthen the federal government’s capacity to promote respect for human rights and women’s empowerment, and to support peacebuilding efferts in the country. How is this work carried out in practice? What can be done by the UN and the Security Council to help bring security and stability to Somalia? And what is done to ensure women’s empowerment in this context?
